Diabetes and the girl child

In September 2018, a convention by the United Nations General Assembly was held to discuss a plan for Sustainable Development by 2030 in Noncommunicable Diseases. The focus was on Type 2 Diabetes, particularly in young females. Poor nutrition of the girl child, beginning at birth, were implicated in a shift in age to an earlier age and an increased incidence in females in low and middle income countries. The goal is to delay pregnancy till age 20, improve prenatal nutrition, increase birth weight, introduce appropriate nutrition to avoid obesity/insulin resistance in the growing child, involvement in exercise to develop musculature. The goal is to care for the girl child, as a healthy female leads to a healthy family.
